GAME DAY RECAP: October 30-31, 2024

CIH Academy (2) vs Ulysse Academie (5) East U18

Ulysse came ready to play Wednesday afternoon as they scored 4 goals in the opening 20 minutes as defenseman Simon Fournier (2) potted two and Eloi Vaugeois (1G, 1A) and Edouard Dion (1G, 1A) each found the back of the net once. Leonidas Gross added his first of the season midway through the second to increase the lead to a commanding 5-0. Andrew Mark scored minutes later and Justin Savage (1G, 1A) added a third period tally while Noah Martin (34/39) kept Ulysse off the board in the final 30, but CIH Academy was unable to beat Leonidas Barkoulas (22/24) enough to tie the game as Ulysse earned the 5-2 win. 

Balmoral Hall School (4/OT) vs St. Mary’s Academy (3) Female U18 Prep

A power play goal 6:35 in by Brannagh Rae (2G) gave Balmoral an early 1-0 lead. However, St. Mary’s would lead 3-1 after 20 as Payton Henwood (1G, 1A), Dayle Bettens, and Camryn Falloon all found the back of the net. Rae would score another power play goal in the second to bring Balmoral within one and Lucy Ring (1G, 1A) picked a perfect time to score her first of the season, tying the game with 7:06 remaining. Balmoral would stay hot on the power play and complete the comeback as Madeline McKay (1G, 1A) scored 1:18 into overtime to give her team the 4-3 win. 

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (5) Female U18 Prep

Pilot Mound (1-6-1) would earn their first win of the season with the upset win over their provincial rival RHA Winnipeg (6-4-1). Sheigh Siemens (3G, 1A) opened the scoring for Pilot Mound three minutes in before Ava Hrubeniuk (1G, 1A) and McKayla Romano traded goals midway through the period. Siemens scored again just 25 seconds into the second but Payton Chornley and Shea Warnick scored exactly five minutes apart to tie the game. Pilot Mount would quickly respond with two goals of their own as Addison Scoville and Siemens each scored power play markers to restore the two goals lead. Sydney Stibbard scored RHA Winnipeg’s third power play goal of the game late in the third but a 60 save performance from Sutter Reeves (60/64) secured a 5-4 Pilot Mound win. 

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (5) vs Shawnigan Lake School (4) U18 Prep

The first period started with three power play goals as Koen Gauthier (1G, 1A) and Easton Sangris (2G) scored for Shawnigan and Sullivan Humeniuk countered for Pacific Coast. Elliott Hill tied the game 1:33 into the second but it was short lived as Nigel Alberts restored the lead 25 seconds later. After it was the power plays having success in the first, Braden Boman (1G, 1A) scored shorthanded midway through the second to even the score. Trace Anderson and Roman Lavery scored less than two minutes apart midway through the third as PCHA took their first lead of the game. Sangria would score another power play goal a few minutes later to bring Shawnigan within one but they were unable to find the equaliser as Liam Russell (43/47) made 43 saves for the win. 

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (7) U17 Prep

McAllister Mugford scored 4:12 in as Shawnigan grabbed an early 1-0 lead. Pacific Coast would erase the deficit and score three straight to close out the period as Chase Heide, Holden Duggan (2G, 1A) and Maddoch Bond (2G, 1A) all found the back of the net. After giving up a shorthanded goal late in the first, Shawnigan responded in the second with a power play goal from Ryder Kerr (1G, 1A). James Powell (1G, 1A) and Treytin Frizzell (1G, 1A) erased the Kerr goal and gave PCHA a 5-2 lead going into the final frame. Richard Desilets II struck early in the second for Shawnigan as they looked to mount a comeback but Bond responded for PCHA just 30 seconds later. Duggan would add his second of the game with 4:15 remaining to give Pacific Coast a comfortable 7-3 win. Parker Parrish (31/34) made 31 saves in the win. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (1) Female U18 Prep

Grace Littler (1G, 1A) and Audrina Freeman (2G) scored late in the first as OHA took a 2-0 lead. Raina Chala would respond for OHA Black just 10 seconds later as it was a one goal game heading into the second. Brooklyn Blomquist (1G, 1A) scored just 21 seconds into the second and Freeman and Sophia Makokis (1G, 2A) added third period tallies as OHA defeated OHA Black 5-1. Jorja Moore (10/11) made 10 saves in the win while Teagan Janzen (42/47) faced 47 shots in the loss. 

Indigenous Sports Academy (3) vs Notre Dame (6) U17 Prep

Sam Carnegie opened the scoring just 37 seconds in and Maksim Bedskikh scored late in the period as Notre Dame led 2-0 after 20. Notre Dame started the second with a shorthanded goal from Lewis Brown 1:09 in while Henry Holt added an even strength tally 1:31 later. ISA would start to mount a comeback as Ryder Cardinal, Cruz Bear and Tyson Bird scored three straight in less than 10 minutes to bring them within one. Logan Arnold would halt the run with a power play marker with eight seconds left in the period. Shyloh Benko (1G, 1A) added the final goal of the game 1:04 into the third period and Clay Harmon (12/15) made 12 saves for the win.
