Bourget College (2) vs Kuper Academy (8) East U17 Prep
Jayden Osborne scored for the visitors just 11 seconds into the game to give Bourget an early lead. Thomas Issa (3G, 1A) countered with his seventh of the season just 3:45 later, as the first period ended with the shots tied 16-16, and the score tied 1-1. Angelo Jr Colletti (3G, 1A) scored the lone second period goal before hitting double digit goals 40 seconds into the third, giving Kuper a 3-1 lead. Kuper would build off that in the final 20 as Issa and Alexander Beck (2G) put their team ahead 5-1. Xavier Hamel halted the run just 12 seconds after Beck scored for Kuper, but Beck responded with his second just 25 seconds after that. Colletti and Issa would each complete the hat-trick in the final five minutes to round out the scoring and give their team the 8-2 win. Matteo Valluzzi (41/43) made 41 saves while Massimo Guerrera (4A) added 4 assists in the win.
Balmorall Hall School (3) vs RHA Winnipeg (4/SO) Female U18 Prep
The RHA Winnipeg home opener saw two Winnipeg, MB squads compete in a game being played to raise funds for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. Lydia Hill and Payton Henwood (2G) scored less than two minutes apart midway through the first as Balmoral grabbed a 2-0 lead. RHA Winnipeg would dominate the second period, outshooting Balmoral 20-7 while getting goals from Kendal Leader and Sydney Stibbard to tie the game heading into the final frame. Ava Hrubeniuk gave RHA Winnipeg their first lead of the night but Henwood countered midway through the period. After OT solved nothing, Stibbard scored the lone shootout goal and Maddison Hagen (35/38) stopped all three Balmoral shooters to give RHA Winnipeg the 4-3 win. Off the ice, the event raised more than $40,000 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation
Delta Hockey Academy (3) vs RHA Kelowna (1) U17
Despite a scoreless first, RHA Kelowna was able to kill off three penalties in the opening frame. However, Delta would find their footing in the second, scoring three unanswered. Saajun Aujla (1G, 1A), Peyton May and Graeme Burke would all find the scoresheet. Noam Colapinto would cram home a loose puck in front to put RHA Kelowna on the scoresheet, but it was too little too late. Cole Chura (29/30) would make 29-saves in the win while Alex Youngson (47/50) would put in a valiant performance, racking up 47-saves in the loss on home ice.
South Alberta Hockey Academy (6) vs Notre Dame Hounds (2) U15 Prep
South Alberta Hockey Academy made their U15 Prep debut against the Notre Dame Hounds on Thursday night, starting things off slow through a scoreless first. Notre Dame would get the better of SAHA early on as Knox Valentine scored the opening goal for the Hounds. However, just 11-seconds later Carter Jarvis would score SAHA’s first ever U15 Prep goal to tie the match. Ivan Kukolj would put Notre Dame back ahead off a sweet play from Marceli Stepien, but SAHA would respond with vigor, scoring three unanswered to close the second period, including a pair from Kovann Chisholm (2G). SAHA would hold on to their lead and extend on it in the third, wrapping up their first U15 Prep win in program history. Patrick Curtis (44/46) took the honours for SAHA, racking up 44-saves in their milestone victory.
