GAME DAY RECAP: October 12, 2024

Delta Hockey Academy White (5) vs Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) U15

Rylan Bassi opened the scoring for Delta White, continuing to emit his club’s imposing dominance this season, posting 16-shots in the first. However, RHA Winnipeg’s Ryder Olford (2G) was able to nab one late to shake things up before the ice clean. Carson Brown (1G, 3A) and Jayden Ni (1G, 1A) would establish Delta White’s lead in the early half of the second but once again Olford would find the back of the net late in the frame to keep RHA Winnipeg’s hopes alive. Their chances further increased in the third as Eli Wasylyk (1G, 2A) tied the game all up at three only 3:42 into the period. Delta White would amp up the offence from this point on, firing another 22-shots on goal and securing another two goals to lock up the win. RHA Winnipeg’s Haize Brightnose (50/55) stood on his head for 50-saves in the losing effort while Cohen Wood (17/20) picked up his fourth win of the campaign with Delta White.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) vs BWC Academy (6) U17

An early start from BWC Academy set the tone in this matchup, scoring thrice before Reese Scott (1G, 1A) got RHA Winnipeg on the board. Leonardo Lee (1G, 2A) would put BWC Academy back in control shortly after Scott’s tally, restoring the three goal lead before Jaxen McFegan (2G, 1A) further extended that margin. Both squads would trade goals once more before intermission. RHA Winnipeg made a push in the third as Atticus Cruz and Atley Feniuk (2G, 1A) cut the deficit to two goals. However, that was all that would get past Tyce Kinsey (49/53) who would go on to supply 49-saves in a match where they were outshot by a whopping 30-shots.

BWC Academy (7) vs Notre Dame Hounds (4) U15

An early even strength marker from Eric Prexler was the difference maker in a frame filled to the brim with powerplay executions as both teams supplied two each on the man advantage. Into the second, Theo Falk would increase BWC Academy’s grip on this match scoring unassisted 6:14 into the frame. Following this effort and shorthanded tally from Nathan DaSilva (1G, 1A) put BWC Academy ahead by three. Notre Dame’s Dominik Chartrand (2G) would score quick back-to-back goals early in the third to give the Hounds a fighting chance. However, Ethan Kartadanita (1G, 1A) supplied the eventual insurance marker, spoiling Notre Dame’s comeback. Tyson Oake (31/35) backstopped BWC Academy to the victory.

St. Mary’s High School (6) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (3) U17

No one was disrupting the hot stick of Adam Ruffell (3G) in this matchup. The Sacramento, CA native netted the game’s first three goals, clinching his hat-trick with a shorty midway through the second. St. Mary’s would go on the exit the second up by four thanks to a buzzer beater from Aidan James (2G, 1A). CDA showed life in the third, scoring three unanswered to cut their deficit to one. However, St. Mary’s was able to slip one more past Morgan Hyndman (27/32) as an insurance marker, enough to claim their second straight victory as guests in the Calgary U17 showcase.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (5) vs Delta Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

Otto Spofforth and Alexander Laing got Delta off to a 2-0 lead in the first period coming off a successful powerplay. However, PCHA would rally back at the end of the period thanks to a late goal from Ben Wetterberg. PCHA would continue this offensive stretch, piling on another two goals late in the second to hand them their first lead of the afternoon. Right out of the gates in the third, Jed Lake would strike on the powerplay to further extend PCHA’s lead while Parson Shahi (1G, 1A) put a bow on this contest as the clock ticked zero. Sam Siskiw (34/36) continues his hot start, racking up his third consecutive 30+ save performance en route to their sixth straight win.

Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) U17

After a quick pair of goals in the second from Clayton Toews and Seth Kshyk (1G, 1A) NAX was in control with a two goal lead. However OHA would rally back with a pair of their own from Luke Edgehouse (1G, 2A) and Jaxson Bartsch (1G, 1A) to tie the game at 3-3 before the ice clean. OHA would continue their offensive prowess in the third, potting two powerplay markers for the outright lead heading into the latter half of the frame. Kegan Power (1G, 1A) would get one back for NAX late but it wasn’t enough to surmount a comeback. 

Fairmont Hockey (4) vs Notre Dame Hounds (0) U17

It took all but 15-seconds for Konner Tzeng to put Fairmont on the board, igniting what was going to be a solid performance from the California-based squad. Sacha Baysal (1G, 1A) would pot a shorty soon after extending Fairmont’s lead. Fairmont would go on to add another pair of goals in this contest, blanking Notre Dame with Piet Konke-Sunenshine (26/26) picking up the 26-save shutout.

Edge School (15) vs Notre Dame Hounds (0) U18 Prep

Edge’s offence was firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s affair with Notre Dame, going 5/6 on the powerplay. Twelve skaters racked up multi-point efforts, including Seattle Thunderbirds and Kelowna Rockets prospects Brock England (2G, 1A) and Nathan Cole (2G, 1A). Adam M’Hamed (2G, 3A) led the charge with five-points while Leif Oaten (11/11) provided 11-saves in his first shutout of the season.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (6) U15

Delta Black kept their perfect record intact with a strong start and finish on Saturday, scoring three unanswered to start and another three unanswered to polish things off. Jesse Parmar (2G, 2A) led the charge with a four-point outing while Silas Colina (2G) potted two of his own. Brayden Allan (11/13) picked up the win in goal while Jace Zemanek (44/50) made 44-saves and stopped a late penalty shot in the losing effort.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4/SO) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep

Hinata Hashimoto got Pilot Mound started just 1:18 into the first, enough to carry a lead into the second. However, RHA Winnipeg would go on to pot two of their own off the sticks of Marko Malbasa (1G, 1A) and Athens Shingoose. Cohen Hlady would add another to RHA Winnipeg’s total in the third to extend their lead, but a late push from Pilot Mound changed the trajectory of this contest. Cole Landreville (1G, 1A) and Maddox Ramage (1G, 1A) forced overtime with two late goals. Overtime wouldn’t solve this affair so a shootout was necessary. Ladnreville would score on PMHA’s first shot but Shingoose would tie things up in the final round for RHA Winnipeg. Following Shingoose, Malbasa would go on to net another while DJ Mecas (22/25) stoned Brock Vodden to secure RHA Winnipeg their first win on the U15 Prep circuit.

Prairie Hockey Academy (0) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) U17

Eliott Horner (30/30) and Cole Fox (26/30) each faced 30 shots but a perfect performance from Horner saw him outduel Fox in a 4-0 Pacific Coast win. After a scoreless first Lukas Needham scored the game winner 6:58 into the second. Hagan Purinton added one late in the period before Owen Bate and Tyson Laidlaw found the back of the net in the third to give PCHA a comfortable 4-0 victory. 

Delta Hockey Academy White (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (4) U15

Ben Bury opened the scoring and Gavin Beza (1G, 1A) scored a power play goal as Yale led 2-0 after 20. Yoo Joon Kim got Delta White on the board 2:37 into the second but Kaleb Newson responded for Yale just 1:24 later. Colby Walker (1G, 1A) scored his eighth goal of the season, on the power play, to bring Delta White within one going into the third. Jacob White killed any Delta White comeback dreams when he beat Aarun Parmar (27/31) 46 seconds into the third. Logan Hwang (31/33) finished with 31 saves to secure the win for Yale. 

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (1) vs North Shore Warriors (4) U17

Rock Oosterveld (3G) scored the lone first period goal 27 seconds into the game before finding the back of the net again 2:18 into the third after a scoreless second. Rowan Weagant got Wenatchee on the board with a power play goal four minutes later but Oosterveld completed the hat-trick midway through the third and Lochlan Shaw added his first of the season less than four minutes later as North Shore earned a 4-1 win. 

Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) U17 Prep

RHA Kelowna was firing on all cylinders in the first as Joshua Johnstone (1G, 1A), Carson Smith (1G, 1A), Nate MacPhee (1G, 1A) and Preston Kelly-Paquet all found the back of the net. Matthew Latscha ended the run 4:29 into the second with his third goal of the season. Cache Leonard (1G, 1A) scored a power play goal late in the second to cancel out the Latscha goal and Porter Rossi scored the lone third period tally as RHA Kelowna earned a 6-1 win. Kai Ebert (13/14) faced just 14 shots in the win. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy Green (12) Female U18 Prep

Delta Green outshot OHA Black 68-7 en route to a 12-0 win Saturday. Erica Barnard (2G), Molly Cole (2G, 3A), Saya Earl (2G, 2A) and Sadie Isfeld (2G, 1A) all scored twice while Jayda Becker (3A), Zaynab Kalyan (3A) and Niayah Morris (3A) all chipped in with three assists. 

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (1) vs STAR Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep

Neither team could find the back of the net through the first 38 minutes of action when Ewen Willers scored his second goal of the season with 1:42 left in the second. After no goals through 38, two were scored in less than a minute as Tyler Stefani scored a power play goal 43 seconds after Willers as the third period started tied 1-1. Zak Stabbler would score his fourth goal of the season with less than five minutes remaining to give STAR the 2-1 win over Wenatchee. Daniel Jr Peebles (38/39) and Keagan Bradshaw (41/43) were in net for their respective teams. 

Shawnigan Lake School (2) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (0) U18 Prep

After a scoreless first Cole Mekelburg scored the game’s first goal, and his first of the season, 11:01 into the second period. Nolan Blankstein added a goal with 52 seconds left and Will Stonehouse (19/19) stopped all 19 shots he faced as Shawnigan earned a 2-0 win over CDA. Bennett Byers (45/47) made 45 saves in the loss. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy (9) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (1) Female U18 Prep

Brooklyn Blomquist (2G) scored twice and Makenna Brassard (1G, 4A) led all skaters with five points as OHA (7-0-0) remained undefeated with a 9-1 win over Delta Black. Audrina Freeman (1G, 2A) and Felicia Girardo (2A) chipped in with two assists and Jorja Moore (19/20) made 19 saves for the win. 

OHA Edmonton (5) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

Prairie led 2-0 after 20 as Noah Kelly (2G) scored twice including a power play goal with eight seconds left in the period. Hunter Yee (1G, 1A) and Parker Fitzgerald (1G, 1A) scored power play goals to open the second and tied the game early in the period. Calum Giese gave OHA Edmonton their first lead midway through the game and another power play goal, this time by Nolan Schmidt (2G, 2A), doubled the OHA Edmonton lead going into the third. Schmidt added an empty net marker with 1:02 remaining as OHA Edmonton scored five unanswered to earn the win over Prairie. Parker Snell (46/48) finished with 46 saves in the win. 

Edge School (5/SO) vs Delta Hockey Academy (4) U17

Akash Raj gave Delta a 1-0 lead 2:52 in but Edge led 2-1 after 20 on goals from Darius Odermatt (2G, 2A) and Rylan Saunders (1G, 1A). Christian Sum tied the game 8:36 into the second before Langdon Woo restored the Edge lead. Santiago Skinner once again tied the game with a power play marker but Odermatt responded for Edge just 15 seconds later. Ewan Torrance scored the lone third period goal to send the game to overtime, and eventually a shootout. Emerson Popil (20/24) would stop all three Delta shooters while Winston Chicilo was the lone skater to beat Lynden Mercier (34/38) and give Edge the 5-4 win. 

OHA Edmonton (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) U17

Maximilian Koppel (1G, 2A) and Bennett Macek scored power play goals as RHA Kelowna grabbed a quick 2-0 lead. Rhett Hudson (12, 1A) got OHA Edmonton on the board but Colton Deschamps (1G, 1A)responded 15 seconds later. Hudson scored early in the second before Bradley Keightley and Kaiden Turta (1G, 1A) traded goals to close out the period. Kesler Hamilton (1G, 2A) and Mason Alexander (1G, 1A) added third period power play goals as RHA Kelowna pulled away in the third period. 

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) vs Delta Hockey Academy (4) U17 Prep

A goal by Kishan Saggu (2G) 1:51 in gave Delta the initial lead. Pacific Coast would respond with goals from Tobie Gilchrist and Brayden Howe in the back half of the first to grab a 2-1 advantage going into the second. Andy Kim scored the lone second period goal to even the score going into the final frame. Saggu scored the go ahead goal on the power play 2:05 into the third and Maxum Pyatt (1G, 1A) added an insurance marker 2:04 later as Delta skated to a 4-2 win Saturday evening. Matthew Wong (33/35) and Parker Parrish (41/45) were in net for their respective teams. 

North Shore Warriors (4) vs St. George’s School (1) U15

After a scoreless first, Cohen Waite and Knox Leeson (1G, 1A) each scored their second goal of the season in the second period. Rex Norman (2G) extended the lead 52 seconds into the third before Nick Hill finally got St. George’s on the board 6:08 into the third. Norman would respond midway through the period to restore the three goal cushion and give North Shore the eventual 4-1 win. Benjamin Boudreau (23/24) and Hudson Waddell (42/46) were in net for their respective teams. 

BWC Academy (1) vs St. George’s School (5) U17 Prep

Aaron Castro (2G) and Ryan Fox traded first period goals as the second period started with the two teams tied 1-1. Castro would score the lone second period goal, and the game winner, midway through the middle frame. St. George’s would get two third period goals from Byron Chin (2G, 2A) and one from Max Bergeron to distance themselves in a 5-1 win. Les Toth (18/19) made 18 saves for the win.

Notre Dame Hounds (4) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (3) U17 Prep

Soren Hayden (2G, 1A) gave Prairie the lead 2:39 into the game but Notre Dame held the 2-1 advantage on goals 2:12 apart from Maksim Bedskikh (2G) and Lewis Brown. Hayden tied the game midway through the second and Kade Kahovec put Prairie ahead 4:14 later. Joe Watson scored a power play goal, his first goal of the season, to tie the game 2:45 into the third. Notre Dame would get another power play goal 4:02 later, this time from Bedskikh. This goal would hold up as the game winner with Clay Harmon (52/55) making 52 saves to give Prairie the 4-3 win.

Indigenous Sports Academy (0) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (13) U17 Prep

Brody Dawson (2G, 1A) scored just 13 seconds in to set the tone in a 13-0 NAX win. Kaysun Brunham (4A) had four assists while Kyle Denis (2G), Emmett Jones (2G, 1A), Bronsyn Mouille (2G, 2A) and Rylan Poitras (2G, 2A) all scored twice in the win. Asher Halliday (3A) chipped in with three assists and Cam Hoose (18/18) made 18 saves for the shutout.
